Why Glide?
Glide Construction Is Boring.
That’s the Point.
Inflatable paddle board construction has gotten complicated.
Or so the marketing would have you believe.
Carbon stringers. Aramid and other space-age fabrics. “Military-grade” PVC. More layers, more technology and a lot of trademark symbols.
We take a simpler approach at Glide. Start with the best materials we can reasonably use, invest in the parts of the board that make a difference, and make every additional material earn its place.
It Starts Inside the Board
Most inflatable paddle boards use either a knitted or woven drop-stitch core.
Knitted construction costs less and flexes more. Woven construction costs more, but creates a stiffer platform with less unwanted movement underfoot.
That gives Glide something more important than a good bend-test number: a solid, stable platform to stand on.
That’s why Glide invests in a premium cross-woven drop-stitch core.

Then We Cover It in Really Good PVC
PVC is tough stuff. It’s been used in commercial whitewater rafts for decades for a reason.
But PVC fabrics aren’t all the same.
Glide uses a substantial 1300D fused PVC shell.
That tells you considerably more about the material than “military-grade.”
The Rails Are Where We Really Care
The rails join the top and bottom of an inflatable paddle board together. They’re also one of the places where an inflatable board can eventually fail, so this is a good place to invest in better construction.
Glide heat welds the main rail seam, then reinforces it with two additional layers of PVC.
We call this construction Thermofused Rails™.
Think about the tires on your car. There’s a recommended operating pressure and a maximum pressure. Your car is designed to perform at the recommended pressure, not the maximum.
Same idea here. A Glide Elite is already rigid at 15 PSI. The higher rating gives the board extra room for hot days, pressure changes, imperfect gauges and years of use.
So What About Carbon?
Carbon stringers can add stiffness to an inflatable paddle board. We just haven’t found that we need them.

Rigidity isn’t the goal by itself. We want a board that feels solid and stable underfoot. We’ve already achieved that without carbon.
Adding another material, another manufacturing step and more cost doesn’t make the board better unless that material produces a meaningful improvement.
Aramid and Other Space-Age Fabrics?
Aramid is an incredible material. So is carbon fiber.
But if the problem is protecting an inflatable paddle board from rocks, we’re not convinced there’s much of a problem to solve.
PVC-coated fabrics have been used in commercial whitewater rafts for decades. Glide uses a durable 1300D fused PVC shell, and our paddle boards have spent years in rental fleets, universities, camps and outfitters.
Rocks aren’t what keep us up at night.
Seams, construction and how the board holds up after years of use are.
So Why Not Just Buy a Cheap Inflatable Paddle Board?
You can, and the PVC may be surprisingly tough.
But tough PVC alone doesn’t make a good paddle board.
The core can be knitted or woven. PVC fabrics come in different specifications. Shells can be glued or fused. Seams can rely on adhesive or be welded. Shapes, components and quality control vary enormously.
That’s where Glide invests the money.
A premium woven core. A substantial fused shell. Welded and reinforced rails. Good components. And shapes designed around how you actually want to paddle.
The result is a rigid, stable paddle board that’s easy to paddle and built to stay that way for years.
And Why Spend $900+ on an Inflatable Paddle Board?
You don’t have to do that either.
Glide invests in premium construction and includes the equipment you actually need to use the board.
If a material makes the finished board meaningfully better, we’ll use it. But every additional material adds cost, manufacturing steps and another place where something can potentially go wrong.
The benefit has to be worth it.
Premium isn’t how much stuff you can add. It’s how carefully you choose what belongs.
What Makes a Premium Inflatable Paddle Board?
For us, the answer is pretty simple.
A premium inflatable paddle board should be rigid enough to feel solid, stable enough to inspire confidence, durable enough for years of use and shaped well enough to paddle efficiently.
The materials and construction should serve those goals. Not the other way around.
That means looking beyond individual buzzwords and considering the entire board: its drop-stitch core, PVC shell, rail construction, seams, shape, components, accessories and how all of those pieces work together.
There is no single exotic material that makes an inflatable paddle board premium.
The finished board is what matters.
